How We Select and Vet Products
Finding health and wellness information is easy. It’s everywhere. But finding trustworthy, relevant, usable information can be hard and even overwhelming. Especially when it comes to selecting products for your health and wellness. Healthline is changing all that.
We’re making high-quality, evidenced-based health information understandable and accessible so when it comes to investing in products for your health and wellness journey, you can make the best decisions for yourself and the people you love.
Our Selection Process
Our editorial team spends hours analyzing data and combing through reader feedback to understand what our readers are looking for. Then we dive into researching and vetting products and brands against our own criteria for quality, accessibility, cost, and availability. Meanwhile, those same products and brands are thoroughly vetted by our team of experts for medical credibility, good business practices, and social impact. Ultimately, this rigorous vetting process makes sure the Healthline Market and our editorial content only contain products and companies that we stand behind.
Our Vetting Process
Our scoring system is based on (but not limited to) answers to the following questions:
Are the health or medical claims made supported by the current body of scientific evidence?
Does the brand adhere to industry best practices? Are they leading the industry in their business practices?
Is there any third-party validation for the industry practices?
Has the company been issued an FDA-warning letter?
Are there any pending lawsuits or previous settlements related to class-action, fair employment practices, and or marketing practices?
Does a product contain anything that has potential for interaction, allergies, and other harmful reactions when ingested?
What are the ingredients/composition of the product? Do the ingredients and/or composition have the potential to cause harm?
What is the social impact of the company? Do they prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives?
Most importantly, we reevaluate all brands on a regular basis to ensure they continue to meet our criteria for quality, credibility, and integrity. If a product or brand is reevaluated and does not meet our standards, we’ll remove it from our site. If we do share a brand or product that hasn’t passed vetting, we’ll be transparent about why so that you can make an informed decision about the brand or product in question.
Simply, we do the legwork — backed by a team of experts — so you don’t have to. All the while, you can feel confident in the choices you make for your health and well-being.
We want to be transparent
If you do make a purchase at the retailer’s site after clicking one of our product links, Healthline Media may receive a small share of the revenue from that purchase. That revenue supports our independent editorial process and helps us deliver on our mission to create a stronger, healthier world. No editorial staff, nor contributors from our medical network, receive a commission from those purchases.
In instances where we do develop a direct business partnership with a brand or retailer, our Medical Affairs team validates those partners to ensure Healthline only works with organizations that perform due diligence and are transparent to their customers regarding objective measures of product safety, quality, and efficacy.
Why we prioritize vetting
Health seekers just like you have made us the fastest-growing information site with millions of people turning to Healthline each month. We feel a responsibility to our community to make sound recommendations that have been evaluated and approved by our team of medical experts.
These high standards not only have a positive impact on you and your health, but they also set a standard across the industry at large.
